Electret Model for the Collective Behaviour of Biological Systems

چکیده
Electret Model, Biological System It is suggested that several basic properties of biological systems, such as muscular motions, active transport of energy, etc., may be described in terms of a dynamical model possessing metastable ferroelectric states. The model is based on the observation that configurationally unstable anions, in particular O 2 , can lead to ferroelectric phase transitions. Due to the highly variable electronic polarizability of such ions a fourth-order potential is generated which can be the origin of three types of solitary excitations: elastic 'pulse' solitons, ferroelectric 'kink' (or domain-wall) solitons and periodic (coherent) solitary waves. Their possible relation to biological phenomena is discussed.

Evolution of Collective Behaviour in an Artificial World Using Linguistic Fuzzy Rule-Based Systems
Collective behaviour is a fascinating and easily observable phenomenon, attractive to a wide range of researchers. In biology, computational models have been extensively used to investigate various properties of collective behaviour, such as: transfer of information across the group, benefits of grouping (defence against predation, foraging), group decision-making process, and group behaviour t...
متن کاملA DSS-Based Dynamic Programming for Finding Optimal Markets Using Neural Networks and Pricing
One of the substantial challenges in marketing efforts is determining optimal markets, specifically in market segmentation. The problem is more controversial in electronic commerce and electronic marketing. Consumer behaviour is influenced by different factors and thus varies in different time periods. These dynamic impacts lead to the uncertain behaviour of consumers and therefore harden the t...
متن کاملThe Paradox of Intervening in Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
This commentary addresses two points raised by Kitson and colleagues’ article. First, increasing interest in applying the Complexity Theory lens in healthcare needs further systematic work to create some commonality between concepts used. Second, our need to adopt a better understanding of how these systems organise so we can change the systems overall behaviour, creates a paradox. We seek to m...
متن کاملEffects of track characteristics on dynamic responses of train-bridge systems
High speed trains are an indispensable part of rapid transportation systems in many countries. As the fastest means of transport on the ground, these trains are extremely sensitive to the terrain and track conditions. Geometrical irregularities and mechanical characteristics of the track, together with inconsistencies in the lane (including bridges that support the track) are considered importa...
متن کاملChapter 6: Synchronisation
Synchronisation occurs when large numbers of individuals co-ordinate to act in unison. In this wide definition of the word, many different types of collective behaviour are examples of synchronisation. A highly aligned group of birds, fish or particles can be said to have synchronised their direction of movement. More commonly however, when we use the word synchronisation we are thinking about ...
